SAVE THE DATE: April 17-19, 2015

Each year, the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council joins forces with millions of young people around the world to improve their communities through service. Global Youth Service Day is a campaign of YSA (Youth Service America), an international leader in the youth service movement. Established in 1988, Global Youth Service Day is the largest service event in the world, and the only day of service dedicated to children and youth.

GYSD is celebrated each year in more than 135 countries, with young people working together–and with schools, youth organizations, nonprofits, community and faith-based organizations, national service programs, government agencies, and adult mentors– to address the world’s most critical issues and change their communities.

The Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council partnered with BREC and the Mayor’s Healthy City Initiative to host a Youth Fitness Challenge.  More than 100 youth attended and participated in various physical activities including tug-of-war, line dance demonstrations, sprints and many more.  They also informed the community about healthy eating and encouraged them to make healthier choices in their diet.
