Baton Rouge Youngsters workout at BREC

Mayor Kip Holden’s Youth Advisory Council teamed up with BREC earlier today to get local youngsters out for a day of healthy fun. Teens with the youth advisory council challenged their peers in the community, to jump, dance, and side-step their way to a healthier life style. These kids also participated in cleanup projects around Scotlandville Park. “They’re talking about what can I do to better my community, and today they’re demonstrating that we can go out and touch people, and let them know what’s going on, and make sure we have a big hand in making people healthy,” said Mayor-President, Kip Holden.

Youth Fitness Challenge Slated for Saturday

The Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council has teamed up with BREC to host a Youth Fitness Challenge in an effort to fight childhood obesity, as well as promote active and healthy living among Baton Rouge youth. Not only will this exciting event feature a series of physical activities, it will also give the youth a chance to give back to their community by addressing issues such as childhood hunger and environmental awareness.

Mayor and local teens help make Christmas brighter

Patients at Our Lady of the Lake’s Children’s Hospital got a special visit yesterday, as Mayor-President Kip Holden joined a dozen carolers from his Youth Advisory Council to spread Christmas cheer to families and little ones who are stuck in the hospital over the holidays. The Mayor’s Mouse made special appearances, too. All to share smiles and let these young patients know they can have holiday fun, too. “Just watching that smile on their face and the mom’s face, even in the battle with my eye glasses, you know, all is worth it,” Mayor Kip Holden said with a laugh. “Because I can tell you, it’s just a feeling that warms your heart and we want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.”The mayor, his youth council, and yes, that mouse, visit children in schools and at other events regularly.
