Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome’s Youth Advisory Council develops the leadership of our youth.
Every high school in East Baton Rouge Parish has the opportunity to have two representatives to serve on this council which will help seek solutions to issues defined by the youth of our community.
The students chosen must have solid communications skills, they must be able to work well with others in a collaborative manner, and they must be able to think holistically seeing the problems but they must also be willing to actively search for and work toward solutions. To accomplish their goals they will have access to the leaders in East Baton Rouge Parish and will work actively with them to create their shared vision of a Baton Rouge that values its youth.
The Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council teamed up with the Mayor’s Healthy City Initiative to create an original song and music video to promote 5210+10, a health and wellness campaign to help combat childhood and youth obesity. MYAC wrote, recorded and produced a music video to showcase their interpretation of what 5210+10 means to them. Funding for this project was made possible through a grant from the State Farm Youth Advisory Board. Watch the Behind the Scenes footage on the making of the music video.
